Happy Shabbat !

If you like making bread and have some time and if you like the idea of celebrating Friday evening Shabbat then try this recipe !
This is to make 1 traditional challah loaf -you may like to double it and make the traditional two loaves. Add some candles and some peace from the stresses of the week and enjoy !
PS this does freeze but it not as nice in my view.

You need:
2 tsps dried yeast
2 tsps sugar
1 tsp salt
8 fl ozs warm water
1lb white bread flour
2 beaten eggs
I beaten egg yolk
Poppy seeds

Stir the dried yeast and 1 tsp sugar into the warm water and leave until frothy -about 10 mins. Then mix the flour, 1 tsp sugar and 1 tsp salt together. Add the yeast mixture to 6 ozs of the flour mixture and mix until smooth. Mixture will be quite liquid. Then cover this mix in a bowl, cover and leave to rise until double the bulk. Then add the 2 beaten eggs to the doubled mixture and mix. Work in the rest of the flour into a dough and knead until smooth. Put in bowl and leave for about one hour until twice its bulk. Then knock the dough back and shape into a plait. Put plait on a tray and leave to rise -again about one hour. Then brush the top with the beated egg yolk and cover with poppy seeds.
Bake around 45 mins at around 190 degrees/ gas 5.

Time consuming recipe but well worth the trouble ! Find a few other jobs to do round the house at the same time !
